Places: Redwood National and State Parks, California, USA

The national and state parks that care for the Giant Redwoods throughout California are an incredible place to visit and see some of the largest living things on earth.

Muir Woods National Monument is the most talked about place to see these amazing trees.  There are, however, other state and federal parks where you can camp among the trees.

California Redwood trees can grow and live for more than 2,000 years. They are not only one of the largest living things (growing higher than 350 feet)  but they also hold the distinction of being one of the oldest living things as well.

These massive trees are also commonly nown as Giant Sequoias or Sierra Redwoods.

Places: Ölüdeniz, Turkey

Likely the most beautiful beach that exists today, Ölüdeniz is a natural treasure on the Aegean coast of Turkey.

The translucent blue Aegean Sea water looks like someone just dropped a few drops of blue food coloring in a glass of ice water. The shades of blue, aquamarine and turquoise are exquisite.  The white sand looks as if it was painted rather than naturally occurring.

Wwading out into the blue water and looking down you can see saltwater tropical fish and other sea life; no snorkel mask required.  Turkish vendor rents umbrellas and lounges right on the beach.

Ölüdeniz is also the name given to the small resort village that supports the area. The area and beach still remain untouched by serious development. Motorized water sports are mostly banned and the most popular sport is paragliding.

A site for the filming of the movie “Blue Lagoon”, the entire area is simply idyllic.

Eats: Casado

What could be more fun than a plate of rice, beans, plantains, salad and maybe a fried egg, piece of chicken or pork and some tortillas on the side?

A casado is the quintessential Costa Rican plate of food and just a wonderful and healthy meal. Casados are typically eaten as lunch or dinner in almost any Costa Rican home or eatery.

While food in Costa Rica has opened up a bit to the rest of the world, the casado is still the dominant plate. Casado in Spanish refers to marriage and the name fits the dish perfectly. Its rich ingredients form a great mixture or marriage of protein, carbohydrates and fiber.
